Wayne
went on to Purdue and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1938. He
proposed to Nancy (Harbert) Milne and promised to marry her once he saved
$1,000.00. When he realized he may not be able to save that amount, he told her
to set the date and they were married on May 5, 1940.

After working a few other jobs,
Wayne landed his career job with Standard Oil where he worked until he retired at age
60. He and Nancy had 6 children: David, Diane, James, Mary, Laura & Amy.
They raised their family in Hammond, Indiana, moving to Dyer, Indiana in 1969
and then to Crown Point, Indiana in 1985.
Bud and "Collet" remained
lifelong friends of Wayne. The Milne and Collet families enjoyed many camping
trips together and Wayne and Larry saw each other at least once a week to play
tennis, jog, or take in a movie with their wives.
Wayne's love for sailing expressed
in the diary was satisfied in his adult life through the ownership of several sailboats,
starting with a little green dinghy. Wayne and Nancy found a winter retirement
location in Florida on Lake Tarpon where Wayne could dock his sailboat. He
enjoyed sailing the lake with friends and family.

"I can hardly wait until I shall be qualified
to take the helm of a sailing vessel,
the only vessel which is alive and possesses a soul."
